An Environmental Management Plan (EMP) is at all times part of the EIA process and allows the client to manage the construction and operational aspects of the EMP. The Environmental Control Officer (ECO) upholds the EMP by conducting compliance audits and assessing the impacts of the construction activities by providing suggestions to ensure that construction carries on without compromising the environment.
An Environmental Control Officer (ECO) is required to monitor compliance of Environmental Management Plans (EMP) which are usually part of the environmental impact process for bulk projects including, water, roads, storm water or work/maintenance taking place in a river/wetland. This service is a requirement on every project and a project cannot take place without an ECO present on site.
